Plymouth was created in 1928 as Walter Chrysler's low-priced answer to Ford and Chevrolet, and for decades it succeeded brilliantly in that role — even outselling Chevrolet some years during the Depression. Plymouth's place in collector-car history was cemented during the muscle era, when the brand produced some of the most outrageous performance cars Detroit ever sold: the Road Runner with its budget price and 383 V8 (or 426 Hemi), the Hemi 'Cuda, the GTX, the winged Superbird, the AAR 'Cuda, and the Duster 340.
