Jeep traces its lineage to the original Willys MB military vehicle of World War II — the rugged little 4×4 that, more than any other vehicle, defined what an American off-roader looks like. Through ownership by Willys-Overland, Kaiser, AMC, Chrysler, and now Stellantis, the core idea has stayed remarkably consistent: a flat-fendered or square-fendered, body-on-frame, solid-axle 4×4 you can drive anywhere. The CJ-2A through CJ-7, the Wrangler YJ and TJ, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, the XJ Cherokee, and the Gladiator J-truck and Comanche pickups all built on that foundation.

Most Jeep restoration projects involve the CJ family (CJ-2A through CJ-7), the Wrangler, the Cherokee XJ and Grand Cherokee ZJ, the Wagoneer, the Gladiator and J-truck pickups, the Commando, and the Jeepster.
