Pontiac was GM's performance-oriented division for most of its 84-year run, and during the John DeLorean era it arguably defined the muscle car: the 1964 GTO is widely credited with starting the modern muscle-car movement by bolting a 389 V8 into the midsize Tempest. The lineup that followed reads like a greatest-hits list — the GTO Judge, the Firebird Trans Am, the Grand Prix, the Catalina 2+2 421, the Bonneville, the LeMans Sport, and the Super Duty cars of the 1960s and 1970s.
