The Oldsmobile 88 (1949–1999) was Olds' volume-selling full-size for half a century. The 1949 Olds 88 with its high-compression Rocket V8 is considered one of the first muscle cars — a lighter Olds body with the senior 88's V8. Various sub-names over the years include Dynamic 88, Super 88, Delta 88, and Custom 88.
