Auto City Classic - Galaxie
The Ford Galaxie was Ford's full-size flagship from 1959 through 1974, and during the early 1960s the Galaxie 500 and Galaxie 500/XL were both sales powerhouses and serious performance cars. The 1963½ R-code Galaxie 500 with the dual-quad 427 Side-Oiler, in lightweight fiberglass-and-aluminum trim, was Ford's NASCAR weapon — and a few of those cars went home with lucky civilian buyers. The 1965–68 cars introduced fastback rooflines and the high-performance 7-Litre option, while the 1969–74 cars defined a particular kind of American full-size luxury.
Most Galaxie restoration projects involve the 1959–60 first-generation cars, the 1961–64 second-generation cars (including the iconic 1963 fastback), the 1965–68 third generation, and the 1969–74 fourth generation. Reproduction body, glass, weatherstrip, and trim parts are widely available.
